Amazin Trip! We went on a private tour to Piedra Herrada, a butterfly sanctuary about 2 hours southeast of Mexico City. Over 60M Monarch butterflies migrate to Mexico in October/November each year, and you can enjoy them through early March. It was the perfect day trip from Mexico City for a once in a lifetime experience! Ruben was so easy to work with before the trip, making several changes to our itinerary and being incredibly responsive to my many questions. We were picked up promptly at our hotel with a new, impeccably clean van stocked with cold beverages and some snacks. 

We were planning to be in Mexico City at the end of February and wanted to spend three days outside the city, primarily to visit the pyramids at Teotihuacan and one or more monarch butterfly sanctuaries in Michoacan. We did not want to do a series of day trips (the arrangement most commonly on offer by other tour operators), but rather to make a more leisurely loop through the countryside and spend two nights out of the city. Our initial contact, Ruben, was super responsive and easy to work with. He took our bare-bones wish list and organized a private tour for two, including all transportation, accommodation, guides, etc. A really great feature of the tour was that we had the flexibility to change/fine tune the itinerary once we were on the road: making delightful unscheduled side trips, such as to the exquisite botanical garden in Toluca; stretching a half day at the pyramids into a fascinating full day; and making a number of spur-of-the-moment pit stops for culinary treats
